Hello, welcome to the second part of the July Episode of Inner Circle TV.
This time is mainly about updates on a Windows computer – some of the settings that can catch you out.
By the way, parts of this were recorded outside so there’s the occasional gust of wind – if you have trouble with the sound, you can turn on the subtitles. Just click the CC button on the video. They are auto-generated so they don’t get every last word right, but they’re pretty good and we’ve tried to fix the most obvious mistakes!
Having problems? Watch it on YouTube here.
As ever we would love to hear any thoughts or comments you have – just drop a comment below.
Thanks

Hello, I’m thinking of buying a new iPad from Apple and have been offered a trade-in discount for my old iPad 2. Would it be enough to just revert it to the factory conditions to remove personal data, or is there anything else I should do?
thanks
Jack

Hi Jack.
It certainly sounds like the right thing to do. Apple have a full page on their recommended process to follow. You can find that page here https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201351
Give it a read before you do any of the steps, then pop back here if you have any questions. I don’t have an iPad I can try this on (Tim will be a bit annoyed if I wipe his settings), but we can talk through anything if that would help.
Make sure you have a backup of anything important, and that you know your iCloud login details (try logging in on a PC here https://www.icloud.com/ ).
Thanks
Mike 🙂

Hello again. I have just completed a Full Scan (as asked for after I did a Quick Scan!) of my laptop and now under the Health of the Machine it is suggesting I re-install Windows 10 to make the machine to run easier. Good thing or bad). James.

Hi James,
The only problem with reinstalling it is you’d lose all of your files. If you back them up and then re-install it you should be fine. There is a feature on Windows Defender called a Fresh Start, this uninstalls Windows 10 and re installs an up to date version of it.
You could leave your computer for a bit to see how it runs and if it’s OK, I wouldn’t worry about re-installing it anytime soon.
I hope this helps,
Thanks
Jess

Hi Tim Mike Jess
Due to advancing years and health issues I have never updated my Windows 10 notebook .Hearing about horrendous update experiences I am at a complete loss as to what to do.Can you please advise.(It will put
Len sorry don’t know how to get text back up
my troubled mind at rest)

Hi Len,
We always advise to keep up to date with the updates as they not only improve the way your computer works (sometimes) but they release new security updates to keep you protected from viruses etc.
To check for updates, open your Settings by clicking on the Windows icon in the bottom left of the screen and clicking on the cog icon.
From there, click on Update and Security and click on Windows Update. Click on the “Check for updates” button and it’ll find any updates you’re due and download them for you.
Let me know how you get on,
Thanks
Jess

Hi everyone. Just a small query. My Mouse does not always work in my laptop and I have to resort to using the laptop key. I have tried re entering the Mouse as it were, but no joy.
July 23, 2018 at 3:49 pm
Hi James,
Is this the mousepad that’s on your laptop or an external mouse that you plug in?
Thanks
Jess

Sorry Jess, a USB Plug In.
July 24, 2018 at 3:47 pm
Hi James,
Thanks for getting back to me. Have you tried using the mouse in a different USB port?
You could also try uninstalling the mouse by going to Settings, Devices, Bluetooth and other devices, click on your mouse and select uninstall. Then unplug the mouse and plug it back in and your laptop will install the correct driver for it.
Let me know how you get on,
Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess. Looks like the problem is fixed by using a different USB point. Ghanks.

Hi Tim and Mike
Just watched Part 1 of your video for the second time and find it much better than the first time owing to the sound which is much improved. Thank you. I was glad to see that it wasn’t just me who couldn’t hear it despite using all the available buttons to make it louder.
Thank you once again and I will now look forward to watching the second part – what a lovely part of the world you live in!

Hi Eileen,
Ah I’m so glad the sound was better, we uploaded the video again with better sound quality. Hopefully Part 2 will have better sound too!
Yes it is beautiful where we live, our offices are on the edge of a nature reserve and right on the coast line, my dogs absolutely love it here!
Take care
Jess

Thank you I have made the useful notes to keep. I always have a problem with updates as they say this will take longer than usual but what is usual. I often leave it for 8hrs or more only to find it has stuck at 82% & I have no option but to turn it off at the wall. It usually has 3 attempts before getting it done. I’m currently stopping it from starting another so I will let it try but it means I will lose my use of the computer all day.

Hi Eileen,
That sounds very annoying, does it give you any error codes when it stops updating or does it just appear to be stuck?
Thanks
Jess
