Hello and welcome to an experiment!
We thought it might be a good idea to try a video version of a Journal post. It’s me and Mike talking about something technology related that’s been in the news recently.
In our first episode, we talk a little bit about the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X (10) that have just been launched and whether it actually matters.
If you have any thoughts, questions or suggestions on things we can do differently or topics you would like to see covered in future episodes please drop us a comment below.
Just click play on the video below, it’s about 13 minutes long… Or if that doesn’t work you can watch it on YouTube directly here.
Thanks for watching.

My computer seems to have frozen somthing to do with network

Hi Audrey,
Usually when a PC freezes you can get it back up and running by pressing and holding the power button until it turns off and then press it again and it should turn back on again.
Do you have any error messages on the screen?
Thank you
Mike

Hi Mike/Tim. Just watched your video and loved the relaxed, 2-person chatting format. Nicely done, keep up the good work! Just one minor criticism Tim : can you avoid tapping the desk, it sounds very load over the mic.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your kind words, I’ll certainly pass them on to Mike and Tim for you.
Thanks
Jess

Mike/Tim. Such a stupid question, as I have done this before, but how do I put a website onto the Desktop. Thanks.
September 25, 2017 at 9:15 am
Hi James,
I can see you’re running Google Chrome which is what I use at work, hopefully I can find the answer for you.
If you have the website open in Google Chrome, click on the three dots in the top right hand corner, scroll down to “More Tools” and then click on “Add to Desktop”. It will ask you to rename it or it’ll suggest a name for it for you. Then click “Add” and it’ll appear on your desktop.
I hope this works for you, please let me know if you have any problems finding it.
Thanks
Jess

Thanks Jess. Done and Dusted.

Hi Brothers! Just viewed the TV Video, whilst not professing to be Tech Minded, I found it to be very clear to understand. Looking forward to future ones. James.

Congratulations om your video debut. I found it easy to view and hear on my desktop. I am now the owner of a Galaxy S8, never been keen on Apple stuff as it’s over priced and they try to force you into using their software and peripherals, it’s Android and Windows for me. Still, nice to be kept up to speed on new technology. There’s so much hype these days that a bit of plain speaking is just what we all need.

Hi Alan
Thanks so much for your kind words! Apple does indeed have a tendency to lock you into their way of doing things.
Our plan is to talk about all sorts of tech-related stuff so who knows what’s next!
Thanks

Hello gentlemen.
Just viewed your first video and congratulations are in order.
Good picture and clear diction.
Although I’m not likely to be rushing out to buy, it was an informative experience.
Good luck with future efforts.
Jim.

Just had a listen to your video, nice to see you both, but could not hear the sound very well. I have noticed that Tim has a very soft voice on his CDs, some of those that I have are the same. Maybe you should speak up a bit, or it could be my hearing as wearing hearing aids does prevent me from enjoying music these days.

Hi Violet
Thanks so much for the feedback! I have included a link on the bottom of the post to our article on turning on Subtitles on YouTube videos and I will try and include a link to this on all future versions we do.
There was some background noise on this one which we will try and work out what was causing it before we do another one.
Hopefully we can clear it up for the next one.
Many thanks

Thanks for the video – it was very interesting, although I have enough trouble trying to get to grips with my Smartphone at the moment so won’t consider trying anything new just yet! (I have got your books, but the queries I come across are never mentioned there!) guess it’s just old age catching up.
I look forward to further videos, so please keep it up both of you.

Hi Eileen,
Thanks for the kind words π
Ahhh no, smartphones do have a habit of misbehaving! When you come across a problem just drop us a question on here and we will do our best to help!
Thanks

Thank you for the presentation, although not interested to have the new ‘phones it was good to see you “live” and know who we are dealing with!

Hi Graham,
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it!

This seems a very good idea since many people prefer following the spoken words rather than the written.
I do think it would be better to include a female presenter! Not that there was anything wrong with your colleague; he did a good job. I think, however, it would work better with both sexes present for these type of technical discussions.

Thanks! That’s a thought – maybe we could include Jess (who’s just started helping with the Inner Circle) in future episodes… we’ll have to see. Part of our approach with this one was to record an episode bearing in mind we mind well change the format/how we do it and then see what everyone thought – we’ll bear that in mind!
Thanks
Tim

Very good and well done to you both, I foresee this as being a very useful and interesting series.

Hi Tim and Mike,
Yes a good idea and a very good first attempt. Maybe you could release the bloopers as a Christmas Special ! I definitely got the impression that you were both on the edge of laughing and nothing wrong with that.
Not that I would ever have paid Β£1000 for a phone but really I suppose the new rather ugly word Phablet does describe them pretty well.
Anyway many thanks and I too think it is a great way to keep abreast in the fast changing world of IT. I look forward to future Episodes.

Hi Tony
Ahhh thanks for the kind words! I especially was in laughter, however, we did this in 1 take! With a bit of editing to remove the bit where I climbed over the desk and just talked randomly about something not related…
Look out for some behind the scenes photos from Jess in the next day or so! But yes a bloopers Christmas special would be fun π
Thanks
Mike π
PS MYself and Tim will have a read of all these before we do the next one to see if there is anything we can change
