Here is Episode 6 of IC TV. In this episode Mike and Tim talk about wifi doorbells (really!), Tim shows you a couple of features in Google maps (including one that had him staring at the screen) and we talk about two different types of printer and which you should have.

I was advised to uninstall and reinstall my printer to get it to work as the computer says it is offline when it isn’t. I have no idea how to do this. I can’t find the bit on my laptop where it lists printers. It only shows that I have a CD drive. Another friend has suggested connecting the laptop and computer by cable, I don’t know what the cable would look like at each end, or where to plug it in. I have a Toshiba laptop and Epson XP800 printer. Please save me hours of copying out documents by hand!

Hi Helen,
Thanks so much for getting in touch.
The type of cable you need to connect the two is a USB cable, usually with a normal USB end at one end (the type you would find on a mouse/keyboard) and this plugs into your PC. And at the other end it’s more of a square shape.
Before you plug in your printer, it’s best to remove the current printer so Windows doesn’t get confused. To do this, open the SEttings app (open the start menu, and click the white cog icon on the left). then click on “Devices”. Then on the left hand side of this screen, click on “Printers & Scanners”.
Hopefully you can see this in an image below.
Then click on the printer, then click on “Remove Device”. Once it’s removed. plug the printer in with the cable and if you leave the settings screen open you should see the printer appear.
You should have got a printer cable with your printer, it will look something likt this https://www.amazon.co.uk/rhinocables-Speed-Printer-connectors-lengths/dp/B075NMG47D/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1531308928&sr=8-8&keywords=printer+cable

Hi Tim, Mike, or Jess
I have a list of email addresses(about 50) that have been sent to my Windows 10 email account on one email, which I am having difficulty adding to my Windows 10 contacts. Can this be done en-mass with Windows 10 mail, or have I got some sort of problem?
Mike

Hi Mike. I’m really sorry it looks like you can’t do this with the Windows Email App. It looks like you have to do 1 at a time which is frustrating.
Can you copy and paste the whole list out into a separate document (Notepad would be ideal), then copy and paste each one into the contacts list? This might be quicker? Let me know if I’ve just talked Klingon at you and I’ll try and do some examples.
Thanks
Mike 🙂

I have been reading your article about taking photos with smart phones. It does bring other related items. That is quality of pictures. When I first started work we set t/v pictures up on test card .Seeing your card above I was wondering if I can get a copy.
March 27, 2018 at 11:31 am
Hi Frank.
You sure can have a copy of the test card above, I was going to change it to something else but I wasn’t very well so I’ve just left it there.
I got it from here https://openclipart.org/detail/19972/tv-test-screen click on one of the green download buttons on the right (you might need to scroll down a little) to get the size you need. BIG, MEDIUM and SMALL options.
Other versions available such as this one https://openclipart.org/detail/98815/tv-testscreen or https://unsplash.com/photos/AvV5rJl1vcU or https://unsplash.com/photos/oTjFWTHDRZQ
All those are free to use for any reason.
If you have any questions about taking photos on smartphones/tablets then let us know.
Many thanks
Mike 🙂

The other way to save the cost of ink is to buy a printer with ink tanks, though they are dearer but they do print A3
March 22, 2018 at 3:58 pm
Hi Brian,
Yes that’s certainly another option to look in to, depending on how much you use your printer.
Thanks

Hi Jo,
Do you have anything specific that you’d like some help with or just how to use the printer in general?
Thanks
Jess

Once again Tim and Mike very good, thank you, hope this is going to continue be a regular feature.
I have one of those door bells very useful apart from what you spoke of, ask the postman to leave the parcel next door, round the back in the shed etc, or a visitor I’ll be back home in few minutes etc.
I also have a ink jet printer, cost of the ink has always been the down side, but the scheme you mentioned of automatic replacement very good 70% cheaper.

Hi Brian,
Yes they can prove very helpful, especially when you’ve got parcels being delivered.
Wow, that is much cheaper, good savings to be had there!
Thanks

I,m having a bit of trouble with my printer. Is it possible to lock in my fire tablet from which I want to print,it seems to want to pick up the printer next door?

Hi Jo,
What sort of printer do you have please? You should be able to find the make and model of it on the side or the front of it,
Thanks
Jess
