Hello, welcome to the July Episode of Inner Circle TV.
This month we’re talking about the different ways you can watch TV online, from BBC iPlayer to services like Netflix, Now TV and Amazon Prime.
Oh, and we have an unexpected guest-star (the one with four legs).
By the way, it was recorded outside so there’s the occasional gust of wind – if you have trouble with the sound, you can turn on the subtitles. Just click the CC button on the video. They are auto-generated so they don’t get every last word right, but they’re pretty good and we’ve tried to fix the most obvious mistakes!
Having problems? Watch it on YouTube here.
As ever we would love to hear any thoughts or comments you have – just drop a comment below.
Thanks
Tim & Mike

Hi, just been watching Fake Britain which was covering the subject of
fake apps. It seems someone actually downloaded one from the
Goople Apps store.
Do I need any kind of extra security on my Nokia phone (Android)
Thank you.

Hello,
I’m so sorry, I’m not feeling too well today and I’ve left it too late to ask Tim/Jess to answer the questions. I’ll have a look tomorrow morning and see what I can find. We cover this in one of our books, so I’ll see if I can ‘borrow’ some of the content from that for the answer…
Sorry I don’t have an answer right away

Tim, Mike & Jess
It isn’t our sound that’s the problem nor is it the background conditions,it is their recording. It has become noticeably Quieter on each episode of their talks. I think they also need to be a little more structured in their presentations. I’m sorry, but I am still no wiser on how to use the computer & complementary TV to watch films etc. Unfortunately I was very disappointed.

Hi Jim. Many thanks for your feedback. I’m so sorry you were disappointed in our video.
We are really sorry the sound on this was so quiet, we are working on outputting the video again with louder audio. It takes quite a while to output the video and upload it (it took 2 days over the weekend to upload the video) so it might not be available for a few days.
For now, you can turn on the auto-generated subtitles, you can read about how to turn those on here
We do try to keep our videos fairly informal, which maybe comes across a little too unstructured, it’s more like a chat which maybe doesn’t work in all cases. We’ll certainly keep this in mind for the next one we do.
I’m afraid we don’t really have time to cover all the different types of devices that connect to a TV (there are quite a few).
We have a Journal post (linked above) which lists some of the services we talked about in a little more detail, but it doesn’t cover connecting a device to your TV.
If you have a device such as a ChromeCast or NowTV or Firestick (or one of the many others) then just pop a question about setting it up on the Clubroom and we can talk through the setup with you.
Tim has a video about actually using a Firestick (linked above) which shows him actually using it in his own home.
Again, many thanks for taking the time to get in touch.
Mike

Mike. following your reply, I have realised how awfully rude my comments appear. I am sorry about that, I just wanted to be constructive & to help you in supporting us to understand more how to use computers. I do applaud you for the encouragement & help you All provide.

HI Robert,
Did you put the volume right up on your computer or laptop too? There’s usually two volume adjusters for when you’re watching a video, one on the window the video is open in and the one on your taskbar in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Try putting both of those up and see if that helps,
Thanks
Jess

Hi Robert,
I think the problem is maybe with the way it’s been recorded, with most of it being outside there might be a bit of background noise I’m afraid.
Have you got headphones that you could try using?
Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess

Hi Robert,
For headphones, we use Sennheiser HD headphones in the office and they work really well, you can pick them up from Amazon at around £25 but there are hundreds on Amazon with really good reviews so it’s worth checking them out.
The same goes for speakers too, have a search on Amazon and check out their ratings.
I hope this helps,
Thanks
Jess
