Are you lost in a keyboard shortcut Maze?

Are you lost in a maze of Keyboard shortcuts? Not sure about the difference between CTRL+SHIFT+ESC or CTRL+ALT+DELETE? Then read on and we will try to explain all…
We had a question on the Club Room the other day about keyboard short cuts in Windows 10. Which got us thinking it might help other people out there.
My top 5 Keyboard shortcuts… How many of these do you know?

  1. CTRL+C (Copy)    CTRL+V (Paste)
  2. WindowsKey+[Left,right,up,down key]
(Moves the current screen around on your monitor, WindowsKey+Left moves the current window to the left half of the screen, then click on another program and press WindowsKey+Right, and you will have the two programs side by side)
  3. CTRL+[left, right key]
(in a word editor, the Ctrl+Left key takes your cursor one whole word to the left, same, but opposite direction for the +right key.)
  4. Not exactly a shortcut combination, but the down arrow on webpages is a really good way to scroll down the page, once at the bottom, try the up arrow!
  5. Ctrl+P, a very quick way to print almost any page / document you have open

But Mike, you mentioned a couple in your introduction, Ctrl+Something or other, what do they do?

  • CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
    (opens the Windows Task Manager)
  • CTRL+ALT+DELETE
(Gives you logoff buttons and various other account related settings, such as changing your password)

I want more shortcuts!
Happily, Microsoft has put together a huge list of shortcuts for everything! Open a couple of programs and give them a go!

Same Shortcuts, different formats:

Do you have a favourite shortcut I didn’t mention? let us know in the comments below!

Over and ALT+F4  (Closes Current Window)
